A refractory lining passes through thermal analysis, design, manufacture, supply and installation, then the campaign it has to survive. In the standard model, each stage sits with a different company, and accountability gets lost at the joins. We hold every stage ourselves, starting from what you already know about your operation, not a blank page.

Here’s how that plays out, from the first conversation through to the campaign.

THERMAL ANALYSIS AND 3D DESIGN

We solve the lining before it’s ever

in your vessel.

We start with what you already know about the vessel: where it’s failed before, what’s changed in the process, what the last lining actually did in service. From there, we model where a lining wears first: the corners, the joints, the load points, and design to that, not to a standard specification. 3D design carries that through, refined back and forth with your team until every component’s role is accounted for before manufacture starts.

MANUFACTURE

The lining is made by the people
who designed it.

Many precast shapes are proven, repeatable designs cast to the same specification across sites; where a vessel’s geometry calls for it, we design and build custom moulds instead. At Unanderra, that includes casting precast ladle floors as a single piece up to six tonnes, built to the dimensions the design calls for rather than pieced together on site.

Custom monolithic mixes are developed and tested in-house, refining thermal performance and durability for conditions a standard product doesn’t cover. That material R&D runs continuously, not just when a project calls for it.

SUPPLY

The whole lining, supplied complete.

A lining is rarely one material. What we manufacture locally, both monolithic mixes and precast shapes, is joined by the full brick range and flow-control refractories through Shinagawa’s global network, so the whole lining comes from one accountable source. What arrives on site is what the design called for, ready for the team taking it into the vessel.

INSTALLATION SUPPORT

We stay with the installer,
because performance is decided
at the install too.

Our engineers brief the installation team on anchoring, jointing and dry-out, then stay on hand through the install and commissioning. How the anchoring held and where stress shows up first is what carries into the campaign.

PERFORMANCE BACKING IN OPERATION

We stay through the campaign,
not just to delivery.

Once the vessel is running, we review performance with your team as well as our own data, so issues get flagged before they become shutdowns. Because we designed, made and supported the install of it, we know what to watch for and where, and we adjust the approach as your operating conditions change.

Two ways to get the lining onto your vessel: installed in-situ, or cast before it arrives.

Some jobs need material placed and shaped inside the vessel itself. Others need a shape that's already right before it arrives. SRA supplies both, standard or custom, matched to the vessel and the shutdown window you're working with.

Monolithic, installed in-situ

Castables, gunning mixes and mortars go in unshaped, placed or packed directly into the vessel. That’s the right approach for a quick patch, an irregular surface, or a repair that can’t wait for a full reline. Many of these are proven, off-the-shelf formulations; where a process calls for something the standard range doesn’t cover, custom mixes are developed for that specific application.

Precast shapes, engineered
before they arrive

A precast shape starts with the same process behind any SRA lining: thermal analysis and 3D design. Many precast shapes are proven, repeatable designs, cast to the same specification wherever a vessel calls for it. Where nothing in the standard range fits, engineers design and build purpose-made moulds instead, whether that’s a ladle floor, a kiln section or a launder with geometry nothing else matches. Either way, the shape is cast to the required geometry directly, then delivered ready to install rather than shaped under time pressure inside the shutdown window.
